All Levels Yoga
All Levels Yoga invites you to work with your body and breath however it shows up on a given day. Your instructor will offer various options with most poses so you can explore and learn more on days when you feel energetic or stay with the fundamentals on days when you need the stability. All Levels classes may be suitable for beginners, but if you’re brand new, you may spend some time observing some poses or taking more rest. All Levels is a great place to learn more about the poses and practices and how to use them to help you meet your goals in body and mind.
Candlelight Slow Flow
Slow down your yoga practice by lengthening, deepening, and following the breath. Learn how to incorporate mindfulness into each movement as you begin to awaken your nervous system and allow it to create peace and calmness. Students are encouraged to move with their breath to gain a deeper, more tranquil access to each pose. Great for beginners and advanced practitioners alike.
Enjoy the benefits of yoga without getting up and down from the floor. In chair yoga, students practice poses while seated in a chair or using the chair for assistance in some standing poses. Those with chronic conditions, less mobility, or anyone looking for gradual and gentle ways to increase his or her range of motion can experience benefits from this practice. Join people of all ages, levels, and physical conditions in this fun, supportive class.
Community Meditation in the Courtyard (FREE)
Experience this FREE guided meditation practice, held in the fresh air to reap the amazing benefits of meditation. The session will last about 20 minutes and will leave you ready to begin your week with focus, clarity, and calm. We’ll offer support and guidance for establishing your own daily practice. Come join your fellow Fort Myers seekers in this uplifting, weekly ritual!Meet at Yoga Bird at the door marked Studio B. Sessions will be held indoors in rainy weather.
Suitable for all levels this class will focus on slowly stretching and preparing the body for relaxation and rest. The class begins with slow, gentle stretching with a therapeutic focus followed by restorative poses and Yoga Nidra meditation. Whether you are recovering from illness, under stress, or just need a gentle compliment to your practice, this class will meet you where you are and help you to feel rejuvenated.
Gentle and Restorative
Relieve the effects of chronic stress in this uplifting class. Use gentle movements and breath awareness to prepare for restorative poses. Supporting the body with props you will learn how to create the conditions for total relaxation, letting go of tension in the body and mind. Each class is sequenced in a way that will leave you feeling rejuvenated, enlivened, and ready to move into the rest of your day with ease.
Begin to awaken to your body in Gentle Yoga, gradually gaining flexibility and mobility through stretching the body and stabilizing the breath. Those new to the practice will benefit from the slower pace and emphasis on reclining and seated postures. More experienced students find Gentle Yoga a place to reconnect with the fundamentals of practice and to cultivate mindful awareness.
Power Yoga at the Bird is an accessible, yet challenging asana practice for body and mind to help you build strength and endurance and cultivate a clear mind. Learn to work with more challenging sequences and poses in a way that allows you to build inner support so that your practice is invigorating, safe, and sustainable. Students are encouraged to modify and rest as appropriate. It will be helpful to be familiar with some common poses and modifications from Yoga 1.
Suitable for all levels, this deeply relaxing, rejuvenating class begins with an exploration of gentle, nurturing movements designed to help the mind and the physical body prepare for surrender to long, quiet restorative poses. Using the support offered by bolsters, blankets and other props, students will relax into poses designed to cultivate deliberate stillness and deep release. Class will end with an extended savasana and meditation incorporating the healing properties of the crystal bowls.
Come practice the Sri Sukta, an ancient Samdkrit chant that can help you align with the amazing resources within. Our community is participating in a worldwide group practice if this beautiful mantra in order to support a movement back toward compassion, light, and harmony on the planet. No exerience is necessary. Practice takes under 15 minutes, so you will have time to attend yoga class afterward. (FREE to all)
Tween Yoga (9-13yrs) see Yoga Kids for ages 2-5yrs
Perfect for boys and girls ages 9-13 years old. This is a non-judgmental, creative, safe, and fun space for your pre-teen to grow and learn about themselves through movement and breath. We encourage trust throughout class and find ways to challenge ourselves to improve our coordination, balance and self control. We also learn strategies to help kids this age deal with the pressures of everyday life and increase their self confidence and self esteem. Have your child wear comfortable clothes and bring a bottled water.
Yoga and World Dance
Reconnect to your natural rhythms as you build strength and flexibility in a movement practice inspired by Belly dance, Indian dance, African dance, martial arts and healing arts, including yoga. For all levels, the moves are designed to increase cardio health and core fitness and are super fun and easy to learn. Find the joy of freedom in movement, and energize your body, clear your mind and lift your spirit!
This well-rounded practice is great for beginners and experienced yogis. Each class will include stretching and essential yoga poses. Classes include clear explanation of the poses and suggestions for how to modify them for your abilities and goals. Yoga 1 allows you to work at an individualized pace to become stronger and more flexible and to improve balance. Beginners will love the pace and explanation, while experienced yogis will have the opportunity to refine and deepen what they have practiced.
Yoga 101 Workshop*
Learn the basics of how to practice yoga, so you can begin to practice comfortably alone or in a class. This two hour class will be a mix of learning and movement. Move at your own pace according to your intention and fitness level. Prepare to have fun and discover the amazing benefits of yoga in an easygoing, relaxed setting with other beginners.
Learn more about yoga and about your mind-body connection in Yoga 2. This class will explore more subtle aspects of aligning the body as well as breathing and meditation techniques that help you begin to develop your own rich, full practice of yoga. Some more challenging poses may be explored, but as always, modifications are given for multiple levels of ability. The focus of the class is a deeper practice, rather than an advancement of physical ability.
Yoga Bird Flow
This upbeat, mixed-level class incorporates both alignment of the body and vinyasa (breath by breath movement) to help you experience profound benefits in a short time. In this class, you very much design your own experience, with the instructor suggesting ways to slow down and focus on inner awareness or ways to build heat and challenge. The diversity available in this practice is part of what makes it so fun.
Yoga Kids (2-5yrs) see Tween Yoga for ages 9-13yrs
Great for boys and girls ages 2-5 years old. This uplifting, hour long class will have your little bird moving through movements prompted by songs, games and stories. Your child will strengthen coordination, build body awareness, and learn yoga and mindfulness through simple poses and fun breathing exercises. We love using our imaginations in class, so be prepared for lots of silliness and so many giggles.
Have your child wear comfortable clothes and bring a bottled water.
Parents and caregivers participation is optional and always free.
Yoga Lunch Break
Give yourself a healthy break half way through the day. Yoga Lunch Break is a shortened all-levels asana practice. In just 45 minutes you'll enjoy stretching, moving, and strengthening that will power you up for the rest of the day, without making you so sweaty you can't go back to the office. Have a little extra time? Stay 15 more minutes for an extended meditation.
