The Breakdown

Segment 1. The Macrocosm and Microcosm of Ayurveda and Yoga

-Yoga and Ayurvedic philosophy; understanding prakriti and purusha
-The manifestation of the elements; koshas (sheaths) and doshas (constitutions)
-The Ayurvedic clock; how we are affected by the hour, season, and stages of life

Segment 2. Psychology of Ayurveda and Physiology of Yoga
-The architecture of the mind and the gunas; scientific use of asana, pranayama, and meditation
-Prana, tejas, and ojas
-Practices for seasonal changes and vata imbalance

Segment 3. Improving Our Digestion of Foods, Thoughts, and Actions
-The six tastes and the Ayurvedic diet
-Developing clinical awareness of asana, pranayama, meditation and diet/lifestyle as it relates to digestion and assimilation
-Learn to make ghee, kitchari, medicinal oils and teas; includes demonstrations, samples and recipes

Segment 4. Clinical Use of Ayurveda and Yoga
-Practical application of yoga and Ayurvedic psychology; dinacharya (daily routine), cleansing, asana, pranayama and meditation
-Additional training on the nadis (energy channels)
-Working with private clients using yoga and Ayurveda
-Assessment and developing a treatment plan

opportunity to study Ayurveda. 
The program, offered through the Himalayan Institute,
is recognized by and listed with the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA).
Learning in the program is open to all dedicated yoga students.
Certification is available to those with 200-hour yoga teacher certification.


This four-unit program will provide you with the knowledge and skill
to design dosha balancing asana practices, use food with awareness,
and create a lifestyle plan for yourself and for your students
based upon specific needs and goals. You will also be able to offer
Ayurvedic consultations and confidently teach Ayurvedic principles in the classroom.

This program is offered in four units. Units 1-3 may be taken in any order.
Units 1-3 must be taken prior to Unit 4.
